PLE vs VLE
PLE is a combination of tools that make up individualized resources and approach to learning. It is centered around a person's efforts to learn. When this environment is designed well, it will connect you to the people and information that are useful for you. It's a personal resource for answers to questions, supporting context for ideas. Everyone is unique and has a unique mind, and learning works best when everyone uses special ways to learn, to get information. Unfortunately teachers can't show a personal approach to every student in class, they present information to an entire class, so maximize learning process you should create your own elements of learning and to take control of of it in order to make it work for you. If a student is working on a project and does research, he is visiting lots of websites, so he can choose to use a bookmarking tool, such as Diigo, to help him efficiently retrieve pieces of information. He can also use the audio recorder on his phone to record the ideas that come to him during his research. Ss can subscribe to YueTube channels where they can find different topics which will help them understand the subjects they are studying, they can enhance their English listening skills by listening to music, watching films, etc. Depending on the tasks, Ss can use lots of tools as part of their PLE. Having their own system of learning tools that work for them will aid their learning, will be successful. As PLE is personalized it can be difficult for a teacher to provide the most useful tools to the Ss that he/she teaches, because the set of tools that work best for one student, may not be appropriate for another student. PLE tools depend on age, preferred learning styles, so the teacher should encourage Ss to choose the appropriate tools for their learning and become efficient at using them which will give them chance to be successful at school.
As I understood VLE helps professors to create, store, share content, plan courses and lessons and foster communications between Ss and professor. It is an online classroom. So I found out that one of VLE/LMS(learning management system) is Moodle. It provides online learning in personalized environment which fosters interaction, collaboration, where you can study, share, complete assignments, get grades which is innovative, creative and fun. Ss register for the course, complete the course, and then take the assignments for learning outcomes. Ss can learn anywhere, anytime, in their homes, work places or while on the move. Moodle is easy to use, so you can spend little time on your training and learning to use it efficiently. (When I was introduced to Moodle for the first time at AUA, I got scared as I had never been familiar with an online leaning management system in my life). Ss can submit work, receive feedback and grades from the teacher. Using the course forums, Ss can discuss topics, share ideas and feedback on each other's work. Professors can trade their Ss' progress and record which Ss have completed particular learning items and which ones have not. I think this system is really an innovative way to study and gain knowledge. This system can be used for all ages and depending on the age of the learners, the teacher can manage the system for an effective use.
