Big data and analytics

Big data is a huge amount of information stored that can be used to analyze Ss' performances in institutions and universities or to analyze what is happening in the learning process. Due to technological development huge amount of data can be organised and stored in a dashboard otherwise traditional tools couldn't compile those complex data, and it's easier and quick to find what you are looking for which can save your time. Today educators are using data analytics programs to discover institutional problems and find ways for improvements, for positive change. Analytics of learner data are great opportunities for educators to optimize learning and the environments in which it occurs. By identifying trends, EFL professionals from all over the world can develop new classes, teaching strategies to offer learners what they need and want. For example, through online learning, which has a flexible schedule, will be convenient for adult learners who are working, have families. Educators ,with the help of big data, can analyse Ss' age, ethnicity, gender, whether they are full- time or part-time Ss, if they take classes online or on campus. They can analyse Ss's grades and completion rates by program, classroom utilization, that is how many hours a week the classroom is being used. this is very interesting and amazing. Looking at some academic analytics ( which analyses data at an institutional level) can tell the professionals which Ss will be accepted to the university or which Ss may be more likely to drop out or fail their classes, for ex. if a student got accepted to the university and wants to study languages, by using data the professionals already have information about this student-high school GPA, individual class grades- they can assess if that student will succeed in the program. There can be data about tuition, class sizes, Ss' outcomes, etc. Evaluating the Big data is the best way to find solutions for the problems occurring in education. It is said " the more you know about your history, the more you will be able to learn from it". These all can serve as an example for Armenian educators and EFL professionals.
